New record of international students in China
International education is an important component of education in China, and has been attached great importance by the Chinese government. With the guidance of Scientific Outlook of Development and according to the arrangements of the central government, the Ministry of Education (MOE) develops the international education administration system with “scale expansion, structure optimization, quality assurance, management standardization” as a general policy. In 2009, the international student enrollments exceeded 230,000 for the first time.

World’s top universities in 2010 announced!
The 2010 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) is released today by the Center for World-Class Universities of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Starting from 2003, ARWU has been presenting the world top 500 universities annually based on a set of objective indicators and third-party data. ARWU has been recognized as the precursor of global university rankings and one of the most influential lists.

Study Group announces new £10 million Bellerbys Oxford Study Centre
Study Group, a world leader in education and training for international students, has acquired purpose-built premises for Bellerbys College Oxford. The multi-million pound study centre, located next to the River Thames, on Mill Street, is due to open in September, and will give international students from all over the world opportunity to study GCSEs, A Levels and university foundation courses in the world-famous university city.

In Australia international education faces a 10 year recovery
Figures released in early June by the International Education Association of Australia show that the international education sector will face a downturn of approximately 100,000 students over the next year compared with the high point of 630,000 in 2009, with a consequent drop in Australia’s export income.

The EAIE has a new Director
Leonard Engel is the new Executive Director of the European Association for International Education. He succeeds Alex Olde Kalter who stepped down on 26 March 2010 after ten years with the Association. Leonard holds a Master of Public Administration from the Dutch School of Public Administration, The Hague, and a Master of Arts in Literature from Leiden University. As a specialist in internationalisation and student affairs, he has extensive experience in the management of higher education. Vice Chancellor claims Welsh higher education needs to respond to “period of rapid change"
Tuesday 11th May saw the University of Wales, Newport host a celebration of international education with guests including the university’s Vice Chancellor, Dr Peter Noyes; Director of European and External Affairs for the Welsh Assembly Government, Gary Davies; the Director of Higher Education Wales, Amanda Wilkinson; and Arvid Petersen, Global Executive Chairman of Study Group, the world leaders in international education, as well as a range of past and present international students from the centre.

Controlling Study Abroad Programs not so simple
